PHYSIOTHERAPY

I want to work as a physiotherapist in the UK, where do I start?

The first thing you need to do is contact one of our team to discuss your career plans. You can either do this by email, letter or by telephone. Alternatively, you can complete our on-line registration form and a member of our team will contact you within 24 hours (Monday- Friday)

How can Artemis Europe Ltd help me?

We have NHS and private healthcare providers who are seeking experienced and qualified staff. We can offer you advice on registering with the Health Professionals Council (HPC), work permits, interview techniques, CV formatting service and general advice on working and living in the UK.
Once you have registered with us, you will be allocated your own personal recruitment consultant.

Do you charge for your services?

There is no charge at all to the candidate for the services Artemis Europe Ltd provides.

I want to work in Europe; do I need to be fluent in a foreign language?

Our European clients insist that a physiotherapist be fluent (speaking, reading and writing) in the native language of the country in order to be offered a position. Due to the potential risks of miscommunication with patient care, these hospitals cannot accept applications from candidates who are not fluent in the native tongue.

How good will my English have to be to work in the UK.

If you did your training in a non-European Union country whose primary mode of expression is not English, you will be required to undertake and pass the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). You may be asked to take the IELTS even if you come from a Country where English is the primary language of expression.

Will my qualifications be acceptable to practice in the UK?

Ultimately, the HPC will decide this, but show us your CV and we will quickly be able to advise you on this. The HPC will assess your experience and qualifications on an individual basis to decide whether you will be able to practice in the UK.

What do I need to do in order to practice in the UK?

To practice as a physiotherapist in the UK you will need to register with the Health Professionals Council (HPC) who are the regulatory body for physiotherapists and other allied health professionals in the UK. Please click on our HPC link to be directed to their website which is full of valuable information on how to register.

I have been advised that I need to do an adaptation course/supervised placement in the UK. Is this something you can help me with?

Unfortunately not. Due to the huge demand for these courses/placements, employers do not need to enlist the help of an agency.

What Grade will I be able to gain employment at?

Generally speaking, unless you have gained experience in the UK previously, it may be the case that you will not be able to enter employment at your desired grade until you have become accustomed to working in the NHS or private healthcare system. This may not always be the case and your personal recruitment consultant will be able to advise you more accurately.

Do I need to submit a CV. How important is this?

A current and detailed Curriculum Vitae is a vital tool in securing a job in the UK. It allows prospective employers to get an in-depth view of your experience and skills.
Once you have submitted your CV to us, we may ask you to provide more information. Artemis Europe will then format your CV to a standard preferable to hospital employers.

Who gets to see my CV?

All your details will remain confidential at all times. Some employers prefer to review candidates CVs instead of having a completed application form. Therefore, we will ask you if you are willing for Artemis Europe to present your CV to prospective employers. We will of course only show them to clients in the geographical location and nursing speciality you choose.

What should I include in my CV?

The most important thing to remember is that prospective employers do not know you and the skills you have. Therefore it is vital to detail the roles and responsibilities you had for EACH physiotherapist job that you have had, as well as explaining the type of ward/department you worked on, the illnesses/disease you commonly encountered and procedures that you regularly performed.
If you have had any managerial or mentoring experience, this is also imperative to include.
If you have worked in a hospital outside of the UK, please include a brief general summary of the hospitals (number of beds, specialities etc).
If you have undertaken any courses, study days or seminars since qualifying, this also is very important and should be included, even if it just a routine yearly CPR course.
Other information that is worth including is:

  • Languages
  • Articles you have written
  • Hobbies

Please also include the name and contact details of three referees who can provide you with a written reference. If you do not wish these referees to be contacted prior to the offer of a position, please do clearly state that on your CV or tell your recruitment consultant.
Please do not worry about the layout of your CV; we will professionally format your CV for you… FREE OF CHARGE.

How quickly can you get me a job?

We will endeavour to get you’re your perfect job as soon as possible. For all the jobs that require you to complete an application form, there is a closing date. Once this date has passed, due to the busy nature of hospitals, it can take a maximum of three weeks for candidates to be short-listed for interview.
If often is a lot quicker than this, but please be aware that it can take time.

Who will contact me if I am offered an interview?

Artemis Europe act as advocates for you and therefore we will liaise directly with employers on your behalf until you have secured a position. We will at all times keep you up-to-date on how your application is progressing and inform you immediately once we receive confirmation of your interview date or job offer.

What else should I tell you?

Other information that will be useful to us includes:

  • Marital status/dependants. Will you be moving to the UK with family? We can offer you advice on education, accommodation and healthcare.
  • When you wish to start a job in the UK and the period of notice you will be required to give your current employer.
  • The geographical location you prefer. Of course it is perfectly acceptable to have no preference at all. Many candidates will say that they will work in any area of the UK. The more flexible you are will location, the better your chances of securing a job quickly.
  • Have you applied directly to any hospital recently? If you have, or if you have the assistance of another recruitment agency, please do tell us. It would not look professional for yourself or we if we submit your application for a job to which you have already just applied to.

N.B. If at anytime you do not wish Artemis Europe Ltd to help you, please do take a spare moment to contact your consultant to inform them. We can then update your file and therefore not contact you unnecessarily. We can keep your details on file should you wish to enlist our services at a later stage.
